CHEMICAL MILLING

Chemical milling, also known as chemical etching, is a chemical process that removes excess powder from the surface of components, usually made of metal, by selectively dissolving unwanted material.

In Additive Manufacturing, chemical milling is a crucial step for reducing the roughness of internal channels or cavities that are obstructed or not easily accessible or for decreasing their thickness in a controlled manner.

Chemical milling is also used as a preliminary process before conducting non-destructive testing with liquid penetrants.
PRES-X technicians have developed a method for fine-tuning and validating the chemical milling process to make it repeatable and controlled for every possible use.
