Purpose of the project
The purpose of this project is the development of integrated sensors inside cases produced using Additive Manufacturing technology (Laser-Powder Bed Fusion).
The development of this innovative process brings several benefits. In particular, the insertion of the electrical part of the sensor during the production of the protective case allows to obtain the final-net shape part in a single production process, minimizing any possible damage that can occur to the electrical board and decreasing the overall lead time; moreover, the case is closed by the metal itself, leading to the possibility of using the component in critical environments for electrical components (liquids, contaminants,…) without introducing additional protective mechanisms. Finally, the construction of the protective case takes place through Laser-Powder Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing, allowing freedom of geometry and shape typical of this technology without the necessity of introducing features for inserting and blocking sensor electrical parts.
PRES-X has the patent of this technology, in co-participation with Politecnico di Torino (reference Professor Giorgio De Pasquale).
